Protecting Our Rhinos: Husqvarna’s Commitment to a Cause That Matters

World Rhino Day on September 22 isn’t just a calendar date—it’s a call to action. Rhinos, powerful symbols of resilience, have roamed our planet for millions of years, but today, they are fighting for their lives. These magnificent creatures need our help now more than ever.

At Husqvarna, we are nature lovers, we are solution-makers, and we are passionate about wildlife conservation, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with dedicated teams to protect rhinos every day.

We Are Committed to Rhino Conservation

Since 2021, Husqvarna has been deeply involved in rhino conservation efforts across the Greater Kruger Ecosystem, Zululand and northern KwaZulu-Natal. We work closely with dedicated veterinarians like Dr Joel Alves and Dr Ben Miller of Wildscapes Veterinary and Conservation, who lead life-saving dehorning operations in various Associated Private Nature Reserves throughout South Africa. These efforts help make rhinos less attractive to poachers, giving them a better chance to survive.

Dehorning isn’t just a procedure; it’s a critical act of protection. We proudly support this work by providing essential equipment—Husqvarna chainsaws, chains, filing kits, and PPE—to the vets and their teams. We have recently started supplying battery-operated units to these teams. Our battery-operated chainsaws are quieter, produce fewer fumes, and have less vibration, creating a safer environment for both the rhinos and their protectors. For us, it’s more than supplying tools; it’s about standing behind a mission. We believe real change happens when you show up and do the work.

Why Dehorning Matters

Dehorning is a powerful tool in the fight against poaching. It’s not about harming the rhinos—it’s about giving them a future. Removing the horn drastically reduces the risk of poaching, allowing rhinos to live without the constant shadow of danger. Husqvarna’s role in this process goes beyond providing tools; we are a partner in this mission. Our battery-powered chainsaws help create a safer, quieter environment, allowing vets to perform these critical procedures with care and precision. As Dr Joel Alves says, “The tools Husqvarna provides aren’t just equipment—they’re part of a bigger mission. They allow us to perform critical procedures safely, efficiently, and with minimal stress on the rhinos.”
