Winter maintenance and storage of Automower® robotic lawn mower
In the autumn, when outside temperature drops and the grass growth slows down, it's time to get your Automower® robotic lawn mower ready for winter. The preparations include thorough cleaning and maintenance, charging the battery, and ensuring correct storage conditions. It's also advisable to schedule an annual service at your local Husqvarna dealer before the spring season arrives.
If you have a Husqvarna Warranty Plus, Husqvarna Service Plus, or Husqvarna Lease Plus contract, contact your dealer for included winter maintenance and storage. Check the terms and conditions of your contract to understand the services included in your agreement.

Winter maintenance and storage at home
If you want to take care of the preparations and winter storage yourself, here are some points to consider:
- Optimal grass length for winter: Don't mow the grass too short before winter. Longer grass will be better protected during the cold weather.
- Pre-storage charging: Ensure the robotic lawn mower is fully charged and switched off before storing it for winter.
- For mowers supporting GeoFence: If the robotic lawn mower is stored within the GeoFence area, keep the GeoFence active. If it's moved outside of this area, disable GeoFence before turning off the product.
- Deep cleaning mower and charging station: Clean the robotic lawn mower and the charging station; do a thorough cleaning of the body, the chassis, the blade disc, and all moving parts.
- Blade and screw replacement: Replace blades and screws.
- Inspection and maintenance check: Do a general inspection, checking for wear on parts, such as the lower front wheel bearings. Rotate the wheels to listen for any squeaking. Contact your dealer for spare parts or assistance.
- Power supply storage: Disconnect the power supply and store it in a dry and frost-free location.
- Wire connector storage: The Automower® Connector box can be useful to store, protect and organize the wire connectors. Labelling the wires can facilitate correct reconnecting in the spring.
- Indoor storage guidelines: Store the robotic lawn mower and the charging station indoors in a dry area where temperatures remain above freezing point. For Automower® Nera models, only the top part of the charging station needs to be stored; the baseplate can remain outside.
- Proper storage positioning: During storage, ensure the product is resting on all of its wheels on a flat surface, or use an Automower® Wall Hanger, which is specifically designed for storing your Automower® robotic lawn mower and the charging station.
- EPOS™ installation: In boundary wire-free installations with EPOS™ Technology, place the charging station in its original location after storage. If relocated, you will need to update its position in the Automower® Connect app.
Annual service and winter storage at a Husqvarna dealer
An annual service at your Husqvarna dealer is recommended to maintain your Automower® robotic mower in optimal condition and ready for the new season without interruptions.
The service typically inlcudes:
- General maintenance, including replacement of wear parts.
- Firmware updates and electronic diagnostics.
- Thorough cleaning and blade replacement.
- Battery test and charging.
- Safety tests and functional check.
If your mower supports GeoFence, remember to disable GeoFence before bringing the product to your dealer.
To save space in your garage, ask your dealer for their winter storage services.
Charging during winter storage
Most Automower® models do not require charging during storage. Just make sure the mower is fully charged before you turn it off.
Some older models may need to be charged every three months. Refer to your operator's manual for specific guidelines.
Can I leave my Automower® robotic lawn mower outdoors all year?
We strongly advise to store the robotic lawn mower, charging station, and power supply indoors during winter. The boundary wire and guide wires can remain installed in the ground. For Automower® NERA models, only the top of the charging station and the mower need to be stored. The baseplate can remain outside during winter.
If indoor storage of the charging station is not possible, ensure it remains connected to the mains, boundary wire, and guide wires throughout the winter season.
At what temperature can I use and store my Automower® robotic lawn mower?
Storage of EPOS™ reference station
The EPOS™ reference station, used in Boundary wire-free installations with EPOS™ Technology, is weatherproof and can remain outside all year around. Howewer, if you need to remove it for service or long-term storage, it can be detached from its bracket.
If the reference station remains outdoors during winter, we recommend you keep the power supply connected.
If stored indoors, we recommend you keep the arm installed at the post or wall. This allows for easy reinstallation in its original position after storage, enabling the reuse of the virtual boundary and map items previously created. If the reference station is relocated, a new virtual boundary and work areas need to be established.
The reference station can be stored in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 70°C (-4°F to 158°F).
