Will my chainsaw be damaged if I put oil in the fuel tank or fuel in the oil tank?

When maintaining your Husqvarna chainsaw, it can happen that, by accident, you fill the fuel tank with oil and/or oil tank with fuel.

Oil in the fuel tank

This combination is more serious since when you start the engine, it will suck up the oil which will go into the carbouretor and hoses, clog them and your chainsaw will die.

To get rid of the oil from the chainsaw's fuel tank:

  • change the fuel filter

    fuel filter soaked in oil
  • Flush the fuel tank with fresh fuel a couple of times. Beware that after this, once you reset the engine, the chainsaw will smoke significantly.
  • If you leave your chainsaw for a couple of days, the oil in the carburetor may get sticky. In this case, bring the chainsaw to your authorized local Husqvarna dealer and they will clean out the carburetor.

Fuel in the oil tank

If you have filled the oil tank with fuel, simply empty the tank and refill it with oil.
