How to replace a cutting deck drive belt on a garden tractor

If the cutting deck drive belt on your Husqvarna garden tractor is damaged or slips, it needs to be replaced.

Replacing a cutting deck drive belt on your garden tractor depends on the model of your product.

  1. Remove the cutting deck.
  2. Remove the dirt and grass around the bearing housing, blade pulleys, and from the top surface of the cutting deck.
  3. Remove the bolt (A), the washer (B), and the idler pulley (C).
  4. Remove the cutting deck belt (D) from the blade pulley on the cutting deck.
  5. Install the new cutting deck in the opposite sequence. Make sure that the cutting deck belt is in the correct position in all belt pulleys.

    CAUTION: Make sure that the cutting deck belt is not twisted.
  1. Remove the cutting deck.
  2. Remove the dirt and grass around the bearing housing, blade pulleys, and from the top surface of the cutting deck.
  3. Remove the bolt (A), the washer (B), and the idler pulley (C).
  4. Remove the cutting deck belt (D) from the blade pulley on the cutting deck.
  5. Install the new cutting deck in the opposite sequence. Make sure that the cutting deck belt is in the correct position in all belt pulleys.

    CAUTION: Make sure that the cutting deck belt is not twisted.
  1. Park the product on the level surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Put the cutting deck in the lowest position.
  3. Remove the dirt and grass around the mandrels, and from the top surface of the cutting deck.
  4. Remove the drive belt (A) from the clutch pulley (B) on the engine shaft.
  5. Remove the drive belt from the mandrel pulleys (C) and the idler pulley (D).
  6. Install the drive belt (A) around the mandrel pulleys.

    CAUTION: Put the drive belt correctly in all the grooves on the cutting deck pulleys. The drive belt can become damaged if it is not installed correctly.
  7. Install the drive belt around the idler pulleys (C).
  8. Install the drive belt around the clutch pulley (D) on the engine shaft.
  9. Put the cutting deck in the transport position.
  1. Park the product on the level surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Put the cutting deck in the lowest position.
  3. Remove the dirt and grass around the mandrels, and from the top surface of the cutting deck.
  4. Remove the drive belt from the clutch pulley (M), mandrel pulley (R), and all idler pulleys (V).
  5. Install the drive belt around both mandrel pulleys (R) and around idler pulleys (V).
  6. Install the belt onto the clutch pulley (M).
    CAUTION: Check the belt for proper routing in all mower pulley grooves.
  7. Raise attachment lift lever to the highest position.
  1. Park the product on the level surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Put the cutting deck in the lowest position.
  3. Remove the dirt and grass around the mandrels, and from the top surface of the cutting deck.
  4. Remove the drive belt (A) from the clutch pulley (B) on the engine shaft.
  5. Remove the drive belt from the mandrel pulleys (C) and the idler pulley (D).
  6. Install the drive belt (A) around the mandrel pulleys.

    CAUTION: Put the drive belt correctly in all the grooves on the cutting deck pulleys. The drive belt can become damaged if it is not installed correctly.
    NOTE: You must twist the drive belt 180° at 2 positions (X) to align with the pulleys. Make sure that the thinner part of the drive belt is in the direction of the groove in each pulley.
  7. Install the drive belt around the idler pulleys (C).
  8. Install the drive belt around the clutch pulley (D) on the engine shaft.
  9. Put the cutting deck in the transport position.
