How to examine and replace a spark plug on a ride-on mower
This is an article on how to maintain a spark plug on a ride-on mower.
In order for your Husqvarna ride-on mower to function in the optimal way, you need to make sure that the spark plug is clean and working properly. If the spark plug is dirty or damaged, there can be issues with starting your ride-on mower or you can experience loss of power while using it.
How to examine and replace a spark plug
For this you will need:
- A cloth
- A spark plug wrench
- A steel brush
- A new spark plug, if your old spark plug is damaged; make sure to use the right type of spark plug, depending on your ride-on mower engine model.
Method:
- Open the engine cover.
- Remove the spark plug cap and clean around the spark plug.
- Remove the spark plug with a spark wrench.
- Examine the spark plug; replace it if the electrodes are burned or if the insulation has cracks or is damaged.
- If the spark plug is not damaged, clean it with a steel brush.
- Measure the electrode gap and make sure it is correct; refer to your operator's manual for the correct electrode gap. This may vary depending on your ride-on mower's model.
- Bend the side electrode to adjust the electrode gap.
- Put the spark plug back in and turn it by hand until it touches the spark plug seat. CAUTION: Spark plugs that are not tightened correctly can cause damage to the engine!
- Tighten the spark plug with the spark plug wrench washer is compressed.
- Tighten a used spark plug 1/8 of a turn more, and a new spark plug 1/4 turn more.
- Replace the ignition cable shoe. CAUTION: Do not try to start the engine if the spark plug or the ignition cable is removed!
