How to clean a spark plug on a grass trimmer and brushcutter
To keep your Husqvarna grass trimmer and brushcutter in optimal condition it is important to clean or replace the spark plug.
For this you will need:
- protective gloves
- wire brush
- combi wrench with a large opening or any kind of compliant tool: the tool depends on the spark plug size
- spark plug: please check your product's operator's manual for the correct spark plug size
Examine the spark plug when:
- the engine is low on power
- the engine is not easy to start
- the engine does not operate correctly at idle speed
Spark plug maintenance:
- To access the spark plug, take off the cover.
- Once the cover has been removed, pull the cap and wire off the spark plug. Before you go further, make sure there is no corrosion on the top of the contact and if there is, clean it with a wire brush. Also, make sure to clean the area from dirt and debris.
- To remove the spark plug, use a combi wrench with a large opening in the count clock-wise direction. Check the spark plug for any cracks or carbon deposits, check the contacts on the electrode.
- If there is any carbon deposit on the electrode, clean it with the wire brush.
- If there is no damage to the spark plug and you were able to clean the electrode and the contact post, thread it back into the engine. Make sure it is firmly seated with the socket wrench. Do not over-tighten.
- When applying the cap and wire to the post, make sure it clicks into position.
CAUTION: Make sure to use the correct spark plug gap for your specific trimmer or brushcutter. You can find this information in the operator's manual or if you visit your local authorized dealer. An incorrect spark plug can cause damage to the product.
