How to change engine oil on a ride-on mower
This is an article on changing engine oil in a ride-on mower.
In order for your Husqvarna ride-on mower to function optimally, make sure that you change the engine oil each year. Best would be before the start of the season.
- Park the product on level ground and stop the engine.
- Open the engine cover.
- Loosen the dipstick and pull it out.
- Clean the oil from the dipstick.
- Put the dipstick back in and tighten it.
- Loosen and pull the dipstick out and read the oil level.
- The oil level must be between the marks on the dipstick. If the level is near the ADD mark, fill oil to the FULL mark.
- Fill the oil through the hole that the dipstick sits in. Fill the oil slowly.
- Tighten the dipstick correctly before your start the engine. Start and idle the engine for about 30 seconds. Stop the engine. Wait 30 seconds and do a check of the oil level again.
NOTE: Make sure to use the recommended engine oil for your specific ride-on mower. You can check this in the operator's manual. Do not mix two different types of oil.
If the engine is cold, start the engine for 1-2 minutes before draining the engine oil. This makes the engine oil warm and easier to drain.
WARNING: Do not operate the engine for more than 1-2 minutes before you drain the engine oil. The engine oil becomes very hot and can cause burning injuries. Let the engine become cool before you drain the engine oil.
WARNING: If you spill the engine oil on your body, clean with soap and water.
- Put the container below the oil drain plug.
- Open the plastic cap on the end of the of the drain plug.
- Attach a plastic hose to the end of the oil drain plug to prevent spill.
- Turn the oil plug counter-clockwise and pull out to open it.
- Remove the dipstick.
- Let the oil run out into the container.
- Attach the oil drain plug.
- Push the oil drain plug in and turn it clockwise to close it.
- Remove the plastic hose and put the cap on the oil drain plug.
- Turn the oil filter counter-clockwise to remove it.
- Lightly lubricate the rubber seal on the new oil filter with new oil.
- Turn the oil filter clockwise by hand until the rubber seal is in the position, then tighten a half turn more.
- Fill the oil slowly through the hole for the dipstick. Use oil with viscosity that agrees with the temperature ranges in the picture.
WARNING: Do not mix different types of oil. - Start the engine and let it operate at idle speed for 3 minutes.
- Stop the engine and make sure that there are no leaks.
- Fill the oil to make up for the oil held in the new oil filter.
