How to activate the GeoFence and GPS tracking of your Automower® robotic lawn mower
When using the Automower® Connect app together with Automower® models with Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity or a mower with an Automower® Connect kit, the GeoFence function makes it possible to track the movements of the robotic lawn mower, for example in case of theft, but also for other purposes.
If your mower supports GPS tracking, we always recommend you enable the GeoFence when you are done with the installation of your Automower® robotic lawn mower. Exactly how to enable it varies, but the general principle is to enable the GeoFence function, set a center point, and adjust the sensitivity or radius as desired. It can be done either using the Automower® Connect app or the mower display, depending on which model you have. Then you are good to go.

What is a GeoFence and how does it work?
The GeoFence is a GPS-based theft protection system that works as a virtual fence for your Automower® robotic lawn mower. The GeoFence function also makes it possible to track the movements of the robotic lawn mower for other purposes.
GPS tracking in the Automower® Connect app
- The Automower® icon on the map shows the position of the mower. When clicked, the pin shows the coordinates of the mower.
- The blue circle indicates the up to a 500-meter radius of the GeoFence.
- The charging station icon on the map shows the starting point of the mower.
- The position is specified with a precision of 10 meters, but the accuracy depends on the accuracy of Google Maps at the specified location and how strong the GPS signal is.
What happens when the GeoFence alarm goes off?
If the GeoFence function is enabled and the mower is moved outside of the GeoFence, the following applies:
- An alarm will start.
- After a while, the mower enters sleep mode or is turned off (depending on model), but the system keeps sending the mower position regularly to Automower® Connect.
- The PIN code is needed to turn off the alarm and to wake up the mower.
- You can follow the movements of your mower in the map view in the Automower® Connect app.
- The GeoFence function is designed to live for a very long time and will keep sending the position to Automower® Connect for the entire time.
Activate Geofence
You can activate GeoFence and change the GeoFence settings using the Automower® Connect app or the mower display, depending on the product model.
Activate Geofence using the Automower® Connect app
- Place your mower approximately in the center of the work area.
- Make sure you are connected to your mower using Bluetooth.
- Select More > Settings > Security > GeoFence in Automower® Connect.
- Put the product in a central position of the work area.
- Toggle the on/off button to enable or disable the GeoFence function. The center position will be set to the current position of the product.
- Use the horizontal bar to set the radius.
You will now be notified by the Automower® Connect app when the mower is moved outside of the GeoFence and the mower status is changed to Outside of geofence (as long as you have approved notifications for the app).
Activate and set up Geofence using the mower display
Enable or disable the GeoFence function
Applies to all models that have a display and support GPS tracking.
- On the mower display, navigate to Accessories > Automower Connect > GeoFence > Activate GeoFence.
- Push the OK button.
- Select or deselect Activate GeoFence and push the OK button.
Set a center point for the Geofence function
- Place your mower approximately in the center of the work area.
- Navigate to Accessories > Automower Connect > GeoFence > New center point on the mower display.
- Push the OK button. The center position is now set to the current position of the mower.
Set the GeoFence level of sensitivity
The sensitivity of the GeoFence can be set by the user. The shorter distance or higher the sensitivity, the easier the alarm is activated. Note, that when you lower the sensitivity or increase the distance, the GeoFence area gets bigger and the mower has to spend longer time outside of the fence for the alarm to go off.
- Navigate to Accessories > Automower Connect > GeoFence on the mower display.
- Use the arrow buttons to select the level of GeoFence sensitivity.
- Push the BACK button.
Add a phone number
If you add your phone number*, you will get a text message (SMS) sent to your phone when the mower is moved outside of the GeoFence and the mower status is changed to Outside of geofence.
One text message is sent each time the status is changed. There is a maximum of 10 messages each month from the product.
Note, that adding a phone number is not mandatory for the GeoFence to work. If you do not add a phone number, you will still be notified from the Automower® Connect app if the mower status is changed to Outside of geofence.
- The SMS function sends you an SMS when the product is moved out of the GeoFence.
- Navigate to Accessories > Automower Connect > Communication > Use SMS.
- Push the OK button.
- Navigate to Accessories > Automower Connect > Communication > SMS phone numbers.
- Push the number buttons to enter the telephone number, including the country code. For example (+)46701234567. You can add up to three numbers.
- Push the BACK button.
Use the Test-SMS function to verify the specified telephone number. A text will then be sent to all the telephone numbers on the list.
*SMS function is only available on some models.
Storage recommendation
When putting the robotic lawn mower into storage for a long period, such as during the winter, we recommend turning off the main switch.
Once the mower has been turned off, it will not be possible to communicate with the robotic lawn mower and the GeoFence function will not be active until the mower is turned on again. When you turn on the mower, you need to enter the PIN code.
Security
For security reasons, you always need to enter the mower PIN code if you want to enable or disable the GeoFence function or make any GeoFence related changes.
What to do if the GeoFence alarm goes off too easily
If you think the GeoFence alarm goes off too easily, for instance, if a false alarm is given even though the mower is inside the yard, try the following:
- Lower the GeoFence sensitivity or increase the GeoFence radius.
- Reset the center point. Make sure the center point is at the center of the work area, otherwise the alarm may be triggered when the mower is still inside the work area.
