Why does my hedge trimmer start and then die?
While working with your Husqvarna hedge trimmer, it can shut off unexpectedly. This could mean there is an issue with the product.
Fuel in a hedge trimmer
The first thing to check is if there is fuel in your product. Make sure that the hedge trimmer is filled with fuel before starting it.
Old fuel in a hedge trimmer
The next thing that can affect your hedge trimmer is old fuel.
When storing your hedge trimmer with fuel in them, fuel can become stale. This will result in the system becoming clogged or restricted.
Fuel-related failures are not covered under warranty. The product would need to be serviced by a local authorised service centre.
Before storing your hedge trimmer, make sure that there is no fuel in it to prevent this sort of issue. Always use fresh fuel when starting your product.
Dirty air filter in a hedge trimmer
If your hedge trimmer still starts and then dies, check the air filter. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty or damaged.

Dirty spark arrestor in a hedge trimmer
Another reason why your hedge trimmer starts and then dies could be because the spark arrestor is dirty or clogged. If this is the case, clean it with a wire brush.
If your hedge trimmer dies when turned sideways, it is usually because the fuel filter is held away from the fuel as the position of the product changes. The fuel filter must be able to stay in the fuel as the position of the chainsaw is changed.
Husqvarna hedge trimmers are equipped with fuel lines of specified lengths and flexibility along with weighted fuel filters. This allows the filter to “follow” the fuel and remain submerged. It is important to always use the correct fuel line and fuel filter for your specific product. You can find this information in the operator’s manual.
Your hedge trimmer may also shut down when turned sideways due to leakage or because the fuel lines need to be reset. In this case, please contact your local authorised dealer.
