How to examine and replace a spark plug on a ride-on lawn mower
This is an article on how to maintain a spark plug on a ride-on lawn mower.
In order for your Husqvarna ride-on lawn mower to function optimally, you need to make sure that the spark plug is clean and working properly. If the spark plug is dirty or damaged, there can be issues with starting your ride-on lawn mower or you can experience loss of power while using it.
How to check and replace a spark plug
For this you will need:
- A cloth
- A spark plug wrench
- A steel brush
- A new spark plug, if your old spark plug is damaged; use the right type of spark plug for the engine model of the ride-on lawn mower.
Method:
- Open the engine cover.
- Remove the spark plug cap and clean around the spark plug.
- Remove the spark plug with a spark spanner.
- Examine the spark plug; replace it if the electrodes are burnt or if the insulation has cracks or is damaged.
- If the spark plug is not damaged, clean it with a steel brush.
- Measure the electrode gap and make sure it is correct; refer to your operator's manual for the correct electrode gap. This may vary depending on the model of ride-on lawn mower.
- Bend the side electrode to adjust the electrode gap.
- Put the spark plug back in and turn it by hand until it touches the spark plug seat. CAUTION: Spark plugs that are not tightened correctly can cause damage to the engine!
- Tighten the spark plug with the spark plug spanner washer is compressed.
- Tighten a used spark plug 1/8 of a turn more, and a new spark plug 1/4 turn more.
- Replace the ignition cable shoe. CAUTION: Do not try to start the engine if the spark plug or the ignition cable is removed!
