How to clean the air filter on a chainsaw
The air filter prevents dirt from getting into your chainsaw.
A dirty or damaged air filter can shorten its service life.
Generally speaking, the air filter should be cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis after use. Under more demanding conditions, the air filter should be checked and cleaned every time you refuel. If the filter develops a hole or a cut, it should be replaced immediately.
- Take off the air filter cover and carefully remove the air filter.
- Wash the foam filter in clean, warm, soapy water.
- Squeeze the foam filter dry in a clean cloth.
- Apply foam filter oil.
- Squeeze the foam filter in a clean cloth to remove excess oil.
- Refit the foam filter and cover.
- Use a flattened screwdriver to open the three latches on the cylinder cover of the chainsaw.
- Remove the cylinder cover.
- Use the screwdriver to lift and release the metal latch that holds the air filter in place.
- Check the air filter for dirt and damage.
- Open the air filter by carefully putting the screwdriver between the upper and lower part and separating them.
- If the air filter is damaged or very dirty, replace it.
- Clean the air filter using a clean brush, or wash it in soap/water.
- Put the air filter back together again and ensure that it is placed correctly in the chainsaw before putting the cylinder cover back on.
