We now turn 150,000 robotic lawn mowers into dancing football fans

You know it is time to celebrate when your team scores that winning goal. A goal that takes you to the semifinal, a goal that you will remember for a lifetime. That feeling becomes even stronger when family, friends and fans surround you. That is why we embarked on a development-journey to create 150,000 new football enthusiasts across Europe. All ready to celebrate every goal with you, right in your backyard.

The functionality will be available in your Automower® Connect app on June 14th. There, you can choose what team to support. When your selected team scores, your Husqvarna Automower® robotic lawn mower will celebrate with a victory dance inspired by some of the most iconic celebrations. The dances are called the 180, the Tornado, and (of course) the Robot. If you want to change the team you root for later during the month, that is also possible in the Automower® Connect app.

But how can the lawn mowers dance in real time? In football, when the best of the best face each other, every moment is critical. Therefore, we knew that we needed this new feature to reflect real time action. This was made possible thanks to the Automower® always being connected to the cloud. Through that, we feed every robotic lawn mower information from an API that instantly updates when a goal is scored, also enabling the lawn mowers´ onboard display to be used as a live scoreboard. Thanks to state-of-the-art connectivity, we managed to get the latency to approximately the same low levels as it is on dedicated streaming devices.

The goal celebrations the robotic lawn mowers perform were developed to capture the essence of famous celebrations seen throughout the years. These were then transformed into robotic movement thanks to expert input on how a robot can mimic human movement. To top it all off, the dances are enhanced with a blinking lights and a fanfare.

The update is available for the following Husqvarna Automower® robotic lawn mower models: Husqvarna Automower® 450X NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 430X NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 310E NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 410XE NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 320 NERA, Automower® 405X and Husqvarna Automower® 415X.
Ensure you have the latest version of the Automower® Connect app, available for download via Google Play or App Store.
Ensure you have installed the latest available firmware update in the Automower® Connect app.

How to set-up victory dance

In the Automower® Connect app, choose “victory dance”, and start by picking your favorite team to program the mower. The mower will now dance each time your selected team scores during a match.

Once your team is selected, you can test the dance by pressing the “Dance now” button. The mowers will randomly perform one of three victory dances.

Which teams can the Automower® robotic lawn mower follow?

This is a pilot project and we have limited it to European national football teams for a month. The teams included are: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, England, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.

Will this update be part of a larger package so all users with compatible mowers will have the functionality?

Yes, all users with compatible mowers will have the functionality.

Will only users with compatible Husqvarna Automower® robotic lawn mowers receive information about the update?

Yes, only users with compatible mowers will receive the information. Models that will have the functionality are: Husqvarna Automower® 450X NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 430X NERA, Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 410XE NERA, Husqvarna Automower® 320 NERA, Automower® 405X and Husqvarna Automower® 415X.

I have a 405X or a 415X, why don’t I see a scoreboard?

The Husqvarna Automower® 405X and 415X have monochrome onboard screens, which cannot show the scoreboard of the ongoing matches. However, they are still connected to every match and will dance every time your favorite team scores a goal.

I have selected my team but can't get it to work?

First of all, make sure that you have accepted the latest software updates in the app. Then make sure that your mower is within the boundary set for your lawn and is not on a deep slope. Lastly, the mower will not dance if it displays an error message, or if it is stopped. If so, please address this first.
