How to clean an air filter on a leaf blower

This is an article about cleaning and replacing an air filter on a petrol leaf blower.

For your Husqvarna leaf blower to function optimally, the air filter needs to be clean and working properly.

CAUTION: Do not use the product without an air filter or if the air filter is damaged. Dust in the air can cause damage to the engine.

If the air filter is dirty or damaged, there may be issues with starting the products or you may experience loss of power while using them.

Air filter types on a leaf blower:

  • Foam filter
  • Felt filter

The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remove dust in order to avoid:

  • Problems starting up
  • Loss of engine power
  • Unnecessary wear to engine parts
  • Excessive fuel consumption

Do maintenance on the air filter more frequently in dusty conditions.

Cleaning the air filter

  1. Remove the air filter cover.
  2. Remove the air filter from the filter frame.
  3. Clean the air filter with warm water and soap.
  4. Clean the inner surface of the air filter cover with a brush.
  5. Remove and replace the felt filter if it is dirty.
  6. Install the felt filter and the air filter.
  7. Install the air filter cover on the leaf blower again.

Oiling the air filter

If you are using your product in dusty conditions, the air filter must be soaked in oil.

This applies to foam filters only.

Always use Husqvarna air filter oil or air filter spray.

WARNING: Use protective gloves, since the air filter oil can cause skin irritation.

How to apply air filter oil from the bottle

  1. Put the air filter in the plastic bag and pour the filter oil over it.
  2. Knead the plastic bag to distribute the oil.
  3. Squeeze the excess oil out of the filter inside the plastic bag and pour off the excess before fitting the filter to your leaf blower.

How to apply air filter oil in spray form

Apply the spray directly to the filter.

Replacing the air filter

If the air filter has been in use for a long time, it cannot be cleaned completely.

In this case, replace the air filter with a new one. Do this at regular intervals.

Depending on the model of your leaf blower, the air filter may differ.
