How to change engine oil on a ride-on lawn mower
This is an article on changing the engine oil on a ride-on lawn mower.
In order for your Husqvarna ride-on lawn mower to function optimally, change the engine oil every year. It is best to do this before the start of the season.
- Park the product on level ground and stop the engine.
- Open the engine cover.
- Loosen the dipstick and pull it out.
- Clean the oil from the dipstick.
- Put the dipstick back in and tighten it.
- Loosen and pull the dipstick out and read the oil level.
- The oil level must be between the marks on the dipstick. If the level is near the ADD mark, fill oil to the FULL mark.
- Fill with oil through the hole that the dipstick sits in. Fill the oil slowly.
- Tighten the dipstick correctly before your start the engine. Start and idle the engine for about 30 seconds. Stop the engine. Wait 30 seconds and check the oil level again.
NOTE: Use the recommended engine oil for your specific ride-on lawn mower. You can check this in the operator's manual. Do not mix two different types of oil.
If the engine is cold, start the engine for 1–2 minutes before draining the engine oil. This makes the engine oil warm and easier to drain.
WARNING: Do not operate the engine for more than 1–2 minutes before you drain the engine oil. The engine oil becomes very hot and can cause burning injuries. Let the engine become cool before you drain the engine oil.
WARNING: If you spill the engine oil on your body, clean with soap and water.
- Put the container below the oil drain plug.
- Open the plastic cap on the end of the drain plug.
- Attach a plastic hose to the end of the oil drain plug to prevent spillages.
- Turn the oil plug anti-clockwise and pull out to open it.
- Remove the dipstick.
- Let the oil run out into the container.
- Attach the oil drain plug.
- Push the oil drain plug in and turn it clockwise to close it.
- Remove the plastic hose and put the cap on the oil drain plug.
- Turn the oil filter anti-clockwise to remove it.
- Lightly lubricate the rubber seal on the new oil filter with new oil.
- Turn the oil filter clockwise by hand until the rubber seal is in the position, then tighten a half turn more.
- Slowly fill with oil through the hole for the dipstick. Use oil with viscosity that complies with the temperature ranges in the image.
WARNING: Do not mix different types of oil. - Start the engine and let it operate at idle speed for 3 minutes.
- Stop the engine and make sure that there are no leaks.
- Fill the oil to make up for the oil held in the new oil filter.
