How to check, maintain and clean the guide bar
When carrying out maintenance on your chainsaw you should also check the chainsaw bar to see if it needs maintenance or needs to be replaced:
- Check whether there are burrs on the edges of the bar. Remove these with a file if necessary.
- Check whether the groove in the bar has become badly worn. Replace the bar if necessary.
- Check that the groove in the edge of the bar is clean. Clean if necessary.
- Check whether the tip of the bar is uneven or badly worn.
Chainsaw bar maintenance
For this you will need:
- Protective gloves
- Screwdriver
- Flat file
- Loosen the tightened screw, remove the clutch cover, push the bar in and then remove the chain.
- Use a screwdriver to clean the guide bar groove.
- Clean the chain lubricant hole.
- Check that the nose wheel is not loose. If it is loose, the bar must be replaced.
- Check if there are any nicks in the bar.
- Remove nicks with a flat file.
- Check the tip of the bar for wear and tear. If it is worn on one side, you can turn the bar around. If it is worn on both sides, replace the bar.
- Check for wear and tear on the guide bar groove by wiggling the chain. If it wobbles, the bar must be changed.
