Automower 410XE Open sky with graphics

Will Husqvarna EPOS™ Technology work in my garden?

The below information will help you assess your garden to see if this technology is suited to the layout of your lawn before you invest. A mandatory garden check will be carried out by your local dealer on the purchase of one of the Husqvarna Automower® NERA mower models with the Husqvarna EPOS Plug-in and Husqvarna EPOS Reference station.

7 steps
01.
Placement of reference station

The reference station needs to be mounted at a minimum height of 2 m (6.6 ft) and within reach of a power supply. It should have an open view of the sky, a cone of at least 135° degrees is needed for reliable operation on your lawn. The mower does not require to be in line of sight with the reference station to be able to mow.

02.
Placement of charging station

The charging station needs to be placed with an open area in front of it and with good visibility of the sky, so it cannot be placed under trees or a roof. It also needs to have access to a power supply. The distance between elevated objects, like hedges or buildings, must be at least 6 m (19.7 ft) wide so not to block the signal between the satellites and the charging station.

03.
Narrow passages

If your lawn has narrow passages with elevated objects on either side, like buildings, hedges or trees, the distance between these should be at least 4 m (13.1 ft) to ensure that there is reliable coverage in these areas. For areas narrower than 4 m (13.1 ft), a transport path can be created so that the mower can pass through this passage but will not mow.

04.
Support by Wire

In specific areas of your lawn the mower can have more frequent or longer stops while searching for satellite signals. To address this issue, you can install a boundary wire in the affected area. This feature is called Support by Wire and it enables your mower to automatically adapt to the boundary wire, allowing uninterrupted mowing  in areas with poor sky view.

05.
Trees in the work area

If there are trees on the lawn where the mower should mow and the crown of the tree or several trees is wider than 4 m (13.1 ft), then this can affect the satellite signal. This means that the mower will lose the possibility to get an accurate position from the satellite, which can affect how the mower operates.

The mower uses other sensors to continue mowing a certain distance with an accurate position, so trees with less than 4 m (13.1 ft) coverage will not affect this.

Trees close to boundary

Pay attention to trees that are densely clustered, close to a boundary, or have canopies wider than 4 m (13.1 ft), as they can impact satellite coverage and lead to brief or extended interruptions. These areas can also benefit from the Support by Wire feature.

07.
L-shaped elevated objects - higher than 1 m (3.3 ft)

If there are buildings in the work area that are in a L-shaped form, these can block the satellite signals, which can affect how the mower operates in this area. For example, in the inner corner of an L-shaped house, the work area would need to be placed at least 1.5 m (4.9 ft) from the building.
