Optimal operating temperatures for a BLi-X battery

When using your Husqvarna BLi-X 36 V battery, both the ambient temperature and the battery’s internal temperature play crucial roles.

BLi-X 36 V battery and ambient temperature

The surrounding environment affects the battery’s performance.

Extreme temperatures can impact capacity, charging efficiency and overall lifespan of the battery.

Use the battery only when the ambient temperature is between -10°C (14°F) and 40°C (104°F).

Your battery might work at -10°C (14°F), but its runtime and performance might decrease.

BLi-x 36 V battery’s internal temperature

The battery’s internal temperature is important during charging, discharging and storage.

If the battery temperature is lower than -10°C (14°F) or higher than 70°C (158°F), the battery will not work during discharging.

If the battery temperature is lower than 0°C (32°F) or higher than 50°C (122°F), the battery will not charge.

Decrease the workload and/or speed of working when the battery temperature indicator is flashing.

NOTE: When the temperature is below 0°C (32°F), heavy workloads can also cause temporary battery errors.

Using the BLi-X 36 V battery in cold environments

  • Warm up the battery: Before using the battery in cold conditions, allow it to warm up to room temperature. Cold batteries have reduced capacity and may not perform at full power until warmed up.
  • Insulate the battery: Husqvarna offers a battery transportation box with integrated insert which provides great thermal insulation.
  • Run the battery-powered product at low power at the beginning, then gradually change to higher power.

Using the BLi-X 36 V battery in hot environments

  • Avoid extreme temperatures: Do not use it at high ambient temperatures (over 40°C/104°F). Do not leave the tools with batteries in them in direct sunlight or in hot locations (e.g. in a car for an extended period of time). Avoid placing the battery on a hot surface.
  • Do not use the tools for a task that they are not designed for, e.g. cutting tall grass with a battery-powered lawn mower requires more power.
  • Try to keep the batteries cool before using them to avoid shut-down due to overheating of the battery pack. The power tool will shut down if the battery reaches 70°C (158°F) internal temperature.
