How to restart and reset Automower®, and handle error messages

This guide provides answers to common questions about identifying problems, handling error messages and resetting and restarting your Automower® robotic lawn mower.

Where to find Automower® error messages, notifications and message history

  • Error messages on the lawn mower display: The error message is shown on the mower display, with tips and advice to help rectify the error.
  • Error messages in the Automower® Connect app: The error message is shown on the dashboard in the app. Select More details for guidance on how to rectify the error.
  • Notifications: Enable notifications in the Automower® Connect app to receive alerts on your phone (the lawn mower requires Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity). Read more about Enabling notifications from Automower® Connect.

Handling Automower® error messages

If an error occurs and your Automower® robotic lawn mower stops operating, the status of the lawn mower is set to Error. To get your lawn mower back up and running, you need to clear the error and restart the lawn mower. How this is done depends on the Automower® model and the error that has occurred.

  • Identify the error: Open the Automower® Connect app or use the lawn mower display to view detailed information about the error.
  • Clear the error: Follow the instructions in the app or on the display to clear the error.
  • Restart the lawn mower: In some cases, it may be necessary to restart the lawn mower.

How to restart Automower®

For lawn mowers with a jogwheel

Turn the jogwheel until you see Power off, then press the jogwheel. To restart, press the jogwheel for 3 seconds.

For lawn mowers with a keypad

Locate the ON/OFF button at the back or bottom of the lawn mower. For Aspire R4, the ON/OFF button is located on the keypad.

How to reset Automower® to factory settings

In the Automower® Connect app

For Automower® NERA and Automower® Aspire R4, you can reset the lawn mower in the Automower® Connect app. This will restore the lawn mower to its factory settings, deleting all map objects and schedules. The following settings will not be reset: Security level, PIN code, loop signal, messages, date & time, language and country.

Follow these steps:

  1. In the Automower® Connect app, select your lawn mower and navigate to More > Settings > General.
  2. Click Reset to factory settings.

From the lawn mower’s display

For models without a jogwheel, reset the lawn mower from its display using the arrow buttons and the OK button to navigate the menu and confirm selections. This will restore the lawn mower to its factory settings, deleting all map objects and schedules. The following settings will not be reset: Security level, PIN code, loop signal, messages, date & time, language and country.

Follow these steps:

  1. In the Menu, navigate to Settings > General.
  2. Select Reset all user settings.
  3. Select Proceed with reset of all user settings and confirm.
