How to create islands in an Automower® installation

If there are areas in your lawn that you don’t want your mower to enter, such as flower beds or rockeries, we recommend creating islands with the boundary wire.

Creating an island

  1. Lay the wire from the border to the obstacle and around it. Ensure you do not cross the wire. If approaching from the right, start on the right side of the obstacle.
  2. When closing the circle, lay the wires close together on the way back. This cancels the signal, allowing the mower to pass over the two wires. Ensure the wires don’t cross, as the mower will not recognise the island and will stop.

Automower® robotic lawn mowers are designed to handle gentle bumps, so obstacles like trees don’t always need to be fenced off. However, ensure the tree does not have visible roots that could damage the cutting blades.

Temporary zone control

If you need to temporarily fence off an area, Husqvarna offers several solutions*:

  • AIM Technology: If you have an Automower® model that supports AIM Technology, you can create a virtual stay-out zone.
  • Automower® FlexiFence: A battery-powered boundary wire for temporary stay-out zones without the need to connect it to the main boundary wire.
  • Automower® Area Switch: Shortcut the boundary wire to create zones that can be easily switched on or off.
  • Automower® Temporary Fence: Robust steel arches that are quickly installed and moved without adjusting schedules or boundaries.

*Availability may vary by market.

Boundary wire-free installations

The information above applies to Automower® installations using a physical boundary wire. For information regarding boundary wire-free installations using EPOS™ technology, see Virtual installation.
